Church. Doesn't mean a building. Today we joined our Church from over a 1000km away. We have been working through 1 Corinthians and today we studied chapter 13 - faith, hope and love.
I have been reading a biography of John Flynn, founder of the Flying Doctors. Flynn wrote: "We will need a very large measure of love. That sacred word is used with hesitation, but no other is adequate. Strong love alone can bridge the long distances; strong love alone can prove effective where men meet but once or twice a year. ... strong love alone can suffice.
We will need strong faith, for faith is tested where platitudes cease to echo, and where with relentless regularity Nature assumes her harshest mood.
The movement is founded on the fact that there is One who takes a personal interest in the lives of all men." Flynn worked to overcome the physical, emotional and spiritual challenges wrought by distance. Today, as we face new and different challenges trying to care for one another's physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing while being separated through self-isolation, quarantine, and social distancing, may we do so with them same strong love, hope and faith that Christ calls for, and which Flynn exemplified.
